JPEG (.jpg) — Best for photographs. Lossy compression produces small files. Does not support transparency. Ideal for web photos, social media, and email.
PNG (.png) — Best for graphics, screenshots, and images with transparency. Lossless compression means larger files but perfect quality. Ideal for logos, icons, and UI elements.
WebP — Modern format by Google. Supports both lossy and lossless compression with transparency. Typically 25-35% smaller than JPEG/PNG. Ideal for web optimization.
BMP (.bmp) — Uncompressed bitmap format. Very large files but zero quality loss. Rarely used in modern workflows but useful for specific applications.

JPEG uses lossy compression, so there is some quality loss compared to PNG. We use 92% quality by default, which is visually indistinguishable from the original. Note that JPEG does not support transparency — transparent areas will be converted to white.
PNG and WebP support transparency. If you convert a transparent image to JPEG or BMP, transparent areas will be filled with white. To preserve transparency, use PNG or WebP format.
