📖 What is a QR Code?

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned by smartphones. It was invented in 1994 by Denso Wave (a Toyota subsidiary) for tracking automotive parts, but is now used universally for sharing URLs, contact information, Wi-Fi credentials, payment links, and more.

QR codes can store up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters and have built-in error correction, meaning they can still be scanned even if partially damaged. They are widely used in marketing, payments (QR Pay), restaurant menus, event tickets, and product packaging.

For printing, use at least 300×300 pixels. For large signs, use 800×800 or larger. As a rule of thumb, the QR code should be at least 2cm × 2cm (0.8in × 0.8in) when printed for reliable scanning.
